The Olive Guy

Yea, Victoria · Delivered in Melbourne

Olive oil from one grove, one harvest, one family.

My parents-in-law grow olives in the hills above Yea. They pick by hand and press on the farm the same day. I drive it down to Melbourne and bring it to your door.

From $30 a bottle. $5 delivery around Glen Iris, or collect for free.

Rows of olive trees on a hillside at Murrindindi Olive Grove near Yea in central Victoria, with green pasture and gum trees behind them

Three things decide whether olive oil is any good.

How fresh it is

Olives start breaking down the moment they leave the tree. Ours are crushed at the grove within 24 hours of picking, usually the same afternoon. Nothing sits in a bin waiting for a truck.

How it was extracted

Cold pressed and mechanically extracted. No heat, no solvents, nothing to strip out the flavour and the compounds that come with it. That is what earns the extra virgin grade.

Where it came from

Single estate means every bottle traces back to the same rows of trees in the same season. Most supermarket oil is blended from many growers, often many countries.

The family behind it

Umberto has been doing this a long time.

The Frattali family pressed oil in Italy for generations before they came to Australia. My parents-in-law planted their grove in the Murrindindi hills near Yea and have run it the same patient way since: tend the trees all year, pick when the fruit is ready, press it before the day is out.

I am the part that happens after the bottle is filled. I bring it to Melbourne so you do not have to drive two hours for good oil.

Ordering is deliberately simple.
